My favorite brewery is Allagash.
Imagine my reaction when I laid eyes upon this tap list for Plan B Glastonbury’s Allagash takeover:
ALL THAT ALLAGASH?
JUST OVER THE BRIDGE IN GLASTONBURY? WAITING FOR ME?
SUPER SECRET KEGS?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Bias and excitement aside, this is going to be a great event. Even better than the smashing Dogfish Head tap takeover was.
Allagash does so much that so few get to experience, if only because of availability and price. Their bottles of Curieux, Hugh Malone, Fluxus and the rest of the gang often get passed by because of their price. An average price of $18 to $20 might scare off new buyers who aren’t sure if they’re going to get quality or not. The price point for a pour at Plan B will be much easier to swallow for the average crowd.
But outside of their White, finding any Allagash beer on tap is a treat for me. Standards like the Black and Dubbel show up once in awhile and the Tripel a little less often. For some reason, I’ve seen Curieux on tap more than the Tripel (and I am not complaining, it might be my favorite beer ever). I’ve been lucky enough to have the Victor and Victoria on tap at Eli Cannon’s awhile back and have had draft only beers like the Big Little Beer, Little Big Beer and Blonde as well. I had Four tapped right in front of me at Plan B Milford earlier this year, which sent me into a state of beer geekery for the minutes I sipped on that glorious beverage.
BUT CHECK OUT THAT TAP LIST.
Barrel-aged Black? Smoke and Beards? Confluence? 2012 Fluxus? Good luck ever having those on readily available on tap any time soon outside of this event or a lucky find at one of New Haven’s great beer bars. This is a must-attend event for any beer geek in the area and I am not exaggerating. I’ve already begun speculating on what the super secret kegs could be, even though that’s pretty much impossible to do with this brewery. But whatever they are, those two will probably be my first two of the night. After that, I’m not sure I will know what to do with myself.
Join me next Thursday. And thank you Plan B and Allagash for making this happen.
